Plume

A column or cloud of material, such as smoke, gas, or aerosols, released into the atmosphere from a source and transported by wind. The shape and dispersion of a plume are influenced by atmospheric stability, wind speed, and turbulence. Industrial stacks and volcanic eruptions are common sources of atmospheric plumes.
