Plume

A column or cloud of material, such as smoke, gas, or fine particles, that emanates from a source and disperses into the surrounding environment. Atmospheric plumes are often associated with industrial emissions or volcanic eruptions. The dispersion characteristics of a plume are influenced by meteorological conditions.
