Fanning
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-004337
A pattern of smoke plume dispersion from a chimney that occurs under stable atmospheric conditions, typically during a strong temperature inversion. The plume spreads horizontally in a narrow band, with very little vertical mixing. This can lead to high concentrations of pollutants at ground level far downwind.
