Downwash

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-003427

The downward movement of a plume of smoke or other effluent immediately after exiting a stack, caused by aerodynamic effects around the stack or nearby structures. This phenomenon can lead to increased ground-level concentrations of pollutants near the source. It is influenced by wind speed and building geometry.
