Down-time

The period during which an automated analytical instrument or system is not available for its intended function due to malfunction, maintenance, or repair. This interval is distinct from periods when the instrument is idle but operational. Calculating down-time is a key metric for assessing instrument reliability and overall laboratory productivity, often expressed as a percentage of total scheduled operating time.
