Bent-back occlusion

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-003886

A type of occluded front where the cold front wraps around the low-pressure center and extends backward, often appearing as a hook shape on weather maps. This occurs when the cold air behind the cold front overtakes the warm front, lifting the warm air mass completely off the surface. It is a feature associated with mature and decaying extratropical cyclones.
