Occluded cyclone
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-007655
A mature extratropical cyclone where the cold front has overtaken the warm front, lifting the warm air mass completely off the surface. This process, known as occlusion, marks a stage in the cyclone's life cycle where its intensity often begins to wane. The occluded front is depicted on weather maps as a purple line with alternating triangles and semicircles.
