Biosphere reserves

Protected areas designated under the UNESCO Man and the Biosphere (MAB) Programme to serve as living laboratories for testing and demonstrating approaches to sustainable development. Each reserve is structured into three interrelated zones: a legally protected core area, a buffer zone where compatible activities are allowed, and a transition area promoting sustainable economic and human development. These reserves aim to reconcile the conservation of biodiversity with its sustainable use.
