Black squall

A squall that arrives with dark, heavy cloud and precipitation, named for the black appearance of the cloud that brings it. It is a sailors' term for a sudden violent gust of wind and is not tied to one region. It contrasts with the white squall, which comes with little visible cloud and shows only as whitened water.
