Breaker depth
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-004020
The water depth at which an ocean wave begins to break, transforming from a smooth swell into a turbulent, foamy crest. This depth is primarily determined by the wave height and wavelength, as the wave's orbital motion interacts with the seabed. For a typical deep-water wave, breaking occurs when the water depth is approximately 1.3 times the wave height.
