Breaking-drop theory
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-004021
A hypothesis explaining the formation of smaller cloud droplets or ice crystals through the fragmentation of larger ones, particularly in turbulent conditions. This theory suggests that large raindrops or melting hailstones can break apart due to aerodynamic forces or collisions, producing numerous smaller particles. It contributes to understanding precipitation development and charge separation in thunderstorms.
