Drop breakup
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-005147
The process by which a large liquid drop, typically a raindrop, fragments into smaller drops due to aerodynamic forces or collisions with other drops. This phenomenon occurs when the forces acting on the drop exceed its surface tension, leading to deformation and subsequent rupture. Drop breakup influences the drop-size distribution within clouds and precipitation.
