Autogenous electrification
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-003720
The process by which electric charge separation occurs within a cloud due to internal mechanisms, rather than external influences. This typically involves interactions between ice crystals, graupel, and supercooled water droplets, leading to the development of strong electric fields. It is a fundamental process in the formation of lightning.
