Aircraft electrification
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-003395
The accumulation of static electric charge on an aircraft's surface due to friction with atmospheric particles like ice crystals, supercooled water droplets, or dust. This phenomenon can lead to radio interference, St. Elmo's Fire, and potential damage to electronic systems or fuel ignition. It is particularly prevalent when flying through clouds or precipitation.
