Precipitation electricity

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-008111

The electrical phenomena associated with precipitation, including the charging of hydrometeors and the electric fields they generate. This encompasses the processes of charge separation within clouds, the electrification of raindrops and ice crystals, and the resulting atmospheric electric currents. It is a key aspect of thunderstorm development and lightning formation.
