Precipitation gauge

An instrument used to measure the amount of precipitation, such as rain, snow, or hail, that falls over a specific period. Common types include standard rain gauges, which collect precipitation in a calibrated cylinder, and tipping bucket gauges, which record precipitation by counting discrete volumes. Measurements are typically expressed in millimeters or inches.
