Bred vectors
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-004026
Perturbations to an atmospheric state that are repeatedly evolved forward in time by a numerical weather prediction model and then rescaled to a fixed amplitude. This process isolates the fastest growing instabilities in the model, which are then used to represent forecast uncertainty. They are a common technique for generating ensemble members in operational weather forecasting.
