Singular vectors
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-008897
Specific perturbation patterns that exhibit the largest possible growth over a finite time interval in a dynamical system. In numerical weather prediction, these vectors represent initial condition errors that are most likely to grow rapidly and lead to forecast uncertainty. They are used to identify sensitive regions in the atmosphere and to construct ensemble forecasts.
