Bred modes
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-004025
Perturbations that grow rapidly within a numerical weather prediction model, identified through a breeding method. These modes represent the most unstable directions in the model's phase space, indicating areas where forecast uncertainty is likely to increase. They are used to generate initial condition perturbations for ensemble forecasting systems.
