Optimal perturbation
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-007720
A small initial disturbance in a meteorological forecast model that grows most rapidly over a specific forecast period, leading to the largest forecast error. Identifying these perturbations allows for targeted observations in sensitive areas to improve forecast accuracy. These are often calculated using adjoint models or singular vector analysis.
