Perturbation quantity

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-007879

A variable representing a small deviation from a mean or basic state in a physical system. For example, in atmospheric dynamics, a perturbation quantity might be a small change in temperature, pressure, or wind velocity from its average value. These quantities are used in linear stability analysis to study the growth of disturbances.
