Brownian rotation
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-004053
The random, erratic rotational motion of an aerosol or other small particle suspended in a fluid, caused by continuous, unbalanced collisions with the surrounding gas molecules. This motion is the rotational analogue of the more familiar translational Brownian motion. The rate of Brownian rotation is inversely related to the particle's size and the fluid's viscosity, influencing the orientation of non-spherical particles in the atmosphere.
