Bumpiness

A qualitative description of atmospheric turbulence experienced by aircraft, resulting in irregular vertical and horizontal motions. It is caused by variations in air density, wind shear, or convective updrafts and downdrafts. The degree of bumpiness is often categorized as light, moderate, severe, or extreme, and is reported by pilots.
