Bummock
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-004080
A downward projection from the underside of a sea ice cover, formed by the crushing and piling of ice under pressure. Bummocks are the submerged counterparts to hummocks, which are the ridges seen on the upper surface of the ice. These features increase the overall roughness and draft of the ice floe, affecting its movement and interaction with ocean currents.
