Surface roughness
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-009446
A measure of the irregularities on a surface that influence the flow of air over it. These irregularities create drag and turbulence, affecting wind profiles and the exchange of momentum, heat, and moisture between the atmosphere and the ground. It is often quantified by the roughness length, a parameter in atmospheric boundary layer models.
