Ice keel

The submerged portion of an ice floe or iceberg that extends downward into the water. This feature is formed by the accumulation of ice on the underside of a floe or by the deep draft of an iceberg. Ice keels can be much deeper than the visible part of the ice, posing a hazard to navigation.
