Convective turbulence

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-004684

Irregular, chaotic air motions generated by buoyancy forces arising from differential heating of the Earth's surface. This type of turbulence is characterized by rising thermals of warm air and sinking parcels of cooler air, creating vertical mixing. It is common on sunny days over land and can affect aircraft stability.
