Cat's nose

A small, isolated patch of ruffled water on an otherwise calm sea or lake surface, indicating a localized downdraft or gust of wind. This phenomenon is a visual sign of small-scale atmospheric instability or the leading edge of an approaching breeze. Sailors and observers use it as a short-term, informal predictor of changing wind conditions.
