Brocken spectre

An optical phenomenon in which an observer's magnified shadow is cast upon a cloud or fog bank opposite the sun, often surrounded by colored rings known as a glory. This occurs when the sun is low in the sky and the observer is positioned above the cloud layer. It is named after the Brocken peak in Germany, where it is frequently observed.
