Central dense overcast
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-004228
A large, circular, and uniformly cold cloud shield that surrounds the eye of a mature tropical cyclone, as observed in infrared satellite imagery. This feature indicates strong convection and deep towering cumulonimbus clouds. The size and symmetry of the central dense overcast are often used as indicators of a tropical cyclone's intensity.
