A strong, dusty, and hot local wind that occurs in parts of India during the summer months. This northwesterly wind is a regional phenomenon, similar in character to other hot, dry winds that blow across arid or semi-arid landscapes ahead of the monsoon season. The name is sometimes associated with a forty-day period of intense heat and wind, reflecting its persistent and oppressive nature during the pre-monsoon buildup.
