Climate anomaly

A departure of a climatic variable, such as temperature or precipitation, from its long-term average for a specific place and time. Positive anomalies indicate values higher than the average, while negative anomalies indicate lower values. Anomalies are often calculated relative to a 30-year reference period to smooth out short-term variations.
