Cold tongue
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-004503
An elongated region of relatively cold ocean water that extends into an area of warmer water, often associated with upwelling or ocean currents. These features are particularly prominent in equatorial regions, such as the eastern Pacific, where they influence atmospheric circulation and climate patterns. The presence of a cold tongue can suppress convection and reduce rainfall in overlying atmospheric regions.
