Tongue

A narrow, elongated extension of an air mass or atmospheric feature that protrudes into a region with different characteristics. This can refer to a tongue of warm air extending poleward or a tongue of cold air pushing equatorward. Such features are often associated with fronts and can influence local weather patterns.
