Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-007316
The forward-projecting part of a trailer chassis that extends to connect with a towing vehicle. This structural member includes the coupling mechanism, such as a ball coupler or pintle ring, which physically links the trailer to the hitch. The tongue also bears a portion of the trailer's weight, known as tongue weight, which is typically managed to be 10 to 15 percent of the gross trailer weight for stable towing.
