Conservatism

The property of a physical quantity that remains constant over time within a defined system, despite changes in other system variables. In atmospheric science, this often applies to quantities like mass, energy, or momentum in an isolated air parcel. For example, potential temperature is a conserved quantity for adiabatic processes.
