Constant-height surface
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-004620
A horizontal surface at a fixed geometric height above a reference datum such as mean sea level, on which temperature, wind or pressure is analyzed. It contrasts with a constant-pressure surface, whose height varies from place to place. Constant-height analysis is used mainly in boundary layer, radar and aviation work, for example a constant-altitude plan position indicator display, while synoptic upper-air charts use isobaric surfaces.
