Isobaric analysis

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-006679

The meteorological practice of analyzing and displaying atmospheric variables on surfaces of constant pressure. This method provides a standardized way to visualize the three-dimensional structure of the atmosphere, as these surfaces are relatively smooth and continuous. Isobaric analysis is a cornerstone of synoptic meteorology, with charts typically produced for standard pressure levels like 850 hPa, 700 hPa, and 500 hPa.
