Standard isobaric surface
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-009193
A conceptual surface in the atmosphere characterized by a uniform value of atmospheric pressure. Meteorologists analyze weather patterns on these surfaces, plotting data like temperature and wind at levels such as 850, 700, 500, and 250 hectopascals (hPa). Unlike a constant altitude surface, the height of an isobaric surface varies spatially and temporally, being lower in areas of cold air and higher in areas of warm air.
