Mandatory level

A specific atmospheric pressure altitude at which meteorological soundings, typically from radiosondes, must report observed atmospheric conditions. These levels are internationally standardized to facilitate consistent data collection and exchange for weather forecasting and climate monitoring. Common mandatory levels include 850 hPa, 700 hPa, 500 hPa, and 250 hPa.
