Mandatory layer
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-007099
A specific atmospheric layer for which meteorological observations, such as temperature, humidity, and wind, are required to be reported by international agreement. These layers are defined by standard pressure levels, providing a consistent framework for global atmospheric analysis and forecasting. Data from mandatory layers are assimilated into numerical weather prediction models.
