Isobaric surface
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-006683
A surface within the atmosphere where the atmospheric pressure is constant. These surfaces are not perfectly horizontal but undulate with variations in temperature and density. They serve as a fundamental vertical coordinate in meteorology for plotting and analyzing atmospheric data, with standard levels including 1000 hPa, 850 hPa, and 500 hPa.
