Continental slope

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-004641

The steeply inclined zone of the seabed that extends from the outer edge of the continental shelf down to the deep ocean floor. This sharp change in depth marks the boundary between the continental crust and the oceanic crust. The slope guides the pathways of major ocean currents, such as western boundary currents, which are fundamental components of the global heat transport system that regulates climate.
