Continental borderland
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-004635
A region offshore of a continent characterized by complex and irregular seafloor topography, including a series of basins, ridges, and islands, rather than a simple, flat continental shelf. This complex bathymetry influences regional ocean currents and sea surface temperature patterns. These oceanic variations in turn affect coastal atmospheric conditions, such as the formation and inland penetration of marine fog and the behavior of sea breezes.
