Continental high
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-004639
A large, slow-moving area of high atmospheric pressure that forms over a continent, particularly during winter. These systems are characterized by cold, dry, and stable air that originates in polar or arctic regions and subsides over the landmass. A continental high is a type of cold-core anticyclone, meaning its highest pressure is found at the surface and weakens with increasing altitude.
