Glacial anticyclone
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-005971
A persistent high-pressure system that forms over large continental ice sheets, such as those that covered North America and Eurasia during past glacial periods. The intense cooling of the air over the ice creates dense, cold air that sinks, leading to high surface pressure. This anticyclone drives cold, dry winds outward from the ice sheet margins.
