Antarctic anticyclone

A persistent high-pressure system centered over the Antarctic continent, characterized by subsiding cold, dense air. This feature is a dominant component of the Southern Hemisphere's atmospheric circulation, contributing to the extreme cold and dryness of the polar interior. It drives the katabatic winds that flow off the ice sheet.
