Antarctic divergence

A zone in the Southern Ocean where surface waters move away from the Antarctic continent, leading to upwelling of nutrient-rich deep waters. This divergence is located between the Antarctic Circumpolar Current and the coastal currents flowing westward along the continent. It is a region of high biological productivity, supporting a rich marine ecosystem.
