Shelf waves
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-008837
Oceanic waves that propagate along continental shelves, characterized by their dependence on the varying depth of the water. These waves are typically trapped to the shelf region and can travel long distances parallel to the coastline. They are a type of topographic Rossby wave, influenced by both the Coriolis effect and bathymetry.
