Coastally trapped waves
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-004471
Oceanic waves that propagate along coastlines, with their energy confined to a narrow band near the shore. These waves are influenced by the Earth's rotation (Coriolis effect) and the presence of a coastal boundary. They can transport energy and influence sea level and currents over long distances along a coast.
